You all know how much I love tote bags. I love their simplicity and function, the ease with which I carry one. So here’s another that caught my eye. The Anya Hindmarch “Huxley” fits the bill – it’s simple and roomy. And although I don’t usually like tassels, this stingray-embossed tassel pull at the zipper is not bad. The leather tote features rolled handles, which I do love. But I would never use the detachable canvas strap (unless I was using this as one of my carry-on travel bags, for a serious messenger look). It also sports other goodies, such as metal feet, a pen slot and key hook, and of course, a couple of patch pockets. If I keep finding tote bags I like, pretty soon I’ll be carrying a tote in a tote! Reworked into a more relaxed shape, the already ultra-functional “Nevis” tote has been taken a step beyond. I used the original nylon “Nevis” as a diaper bag and passed it down to my sister who loved it as much as I did. But in no way is Anya Hindmarch‘s raw leather uprade, with a higher level of tailoring and more streamlined straps, any diaper bag in disguise.

This organic-esque tote, with extra-large outer pockets (the old “Nevis” has patch pockets on the front and back, giving it a utilitarian diaper-bag look) is a sleek and elegant carryall. The thick, flat straps (also new and I wish the older version had them) are comfy on the shoulder, and they also add to the purified look. This is slouchy luxury – the way it opens up extra-wide, along with the simplicity of the handles – that looks all-natural, via the hide-like leather and raw-cut pockets. A no-brainer bag for the busy girl on the go. At Saks Fifth Avenue for $895.

Pair with: Give off low-maintenance vibes with a deliberately baggy striped tee. Bassike‘s semi-sheer organic cotton top hangs with the same ease with which you’ll carry your tote. On Net-a-Porter for $195.

Often the best plans are the simplest ones. This clutch is as sleek and minimal as can be, but Anya Hindmarch proves subtlety can be a most powerful force. At least when the leather is gorgeous, the details are perfection, and the trim is, well, trim. What makes the effect so smooth? They’ve employed a special process of fusing the leather together called thermo saldatura, so there’s no need for extra stitching. Instead, the painted edges offer the ultimate in pared-down appeal.

Hindmarch calls the new clasp their “money clip” closure, but it looks more like a razor blade to me, ever so hard and dangerous. That smidge of edginess is all it takes to transform this well-sized clutch (not big enough to be deemed oversized, but undoubtedly large enough to carry at 9am without looking like you’re performing a walk of shame) into a worthy and versatile staple.

While the perfectly neutral dark-mushroom color is currently sold out on NET-A-PORTER, they’re sure to get more in stock so check back. It’s also available in burgundy (it’s actually more of a rich scarlet) at Anya Hindmarch. On NET-A-PORTER for $1,350.

Pair with: Lug-sole shoes are major for fall, and Barneys New York’s Fairfax oxfords, in blue patent leather, are ideal for dressing this clutch down for day. At Barneys New York for $395.

Anya Hindmarch tends to play it safe. She keeps it simple and concise, preferring to make her mark with classic embroidery over in-your-face flash.
